Vitamin D: a hormone that keeps us healthy Vitamin D is now considered a hormone (hormone soltriale as related to the sun). It acts,indeed, in a manner comparable to steroids. It is, however, neither a soporific nor a stimulating hormone. Its major role is to prevent the cells losing their differentiation (that is to say, to prevent them from becoming cancerous).
