Vitamin D: a hormone that keeps us healthy

Vitamin D is now considered a hormone (hormone soltriale as related to the sun). It acts,indeed, in a manner comparable to steroids. It is, however, neither a soporific nor a stimulating hormone. Its major role is to prevent the cells losing their differentiation (that is to say, to prevent them from becoming cancerous). The second major effect is the stimulatory action on the matrix protein that maintains the structures; thereby regenerating all tissues: starting with the bones, tendons, muscles, cartilage,and blood vessel walls. We now understand why vitamin D helps prevent cancer and maintains all our vital functions and keeps our organs healthy.

We are all more or less deficient in vitamin D, but should be careful about intakes of vitamin D synthesis, which can not only block the natural but also act in reverse and cause precisely what natural permits avoid.

In view of more than 80 international scientific studies, we find, first that almost 90% of the population has vitamin D deficiency, and second that the role of this vitamin is much more important than previously thought.

Which diseases are affected by the deficiency?

Various very recent works allow us to discover its preventive action on various pathologies. For example,we may mention its protective action against the cancer of prostate, breast, colon. It is essential to regulate immunity; certain autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, for example, are compounded by its deficiency. Regarding cardiovascular diseases, studies have shown that its deficiency promotes calcification of arteries. There is even a link between stroke and lack of vitamin D. And for some time we know that spontaneous elderly falls were due to deficiency because of the weakness it engenders. All of this, without talking about osteoporosis, diabetes and depression. Why should we supplement especially in winter and spring?

Because in the winter, we are not exposing the whole body in the sun ,and therefore, the vitamin supply kept during the summer, is eventually depleted; So we lack the vitamin from December ,usually until May.

The second problem is related to the fact that with age, the skin has,gradually, a reduced ability to synthesize the vitamin. In older people, there is a vitamin D production drop that it is essential to compensate with an intake of dietary supplements: Various studies have compared the influx of UVB on the synthesis of vitamin D. In the elderly in institutions, exposure to ultraviolet rays brings the further effect: 20 mcg of vitamin D, whereas in the adult sun exposure allows an intake of 250 to 500 micrograms.

Note: In France inputs   400 IU are tolerated but according to some experts the recommended doses are still insufficient. In Canada and the USA, these contributions have also been enhanced to 600 IU for people from 1 to 70, and 800 IU for more than 70 years.

Which Vitamin D to choose

OEMINE D2 vegetal

Oemine D2 (ergocalciferol) is the natural form of vitamin D found in vegetal foods.   It comes from yeast exposed to ultraviolet whose wavelength corresponds to that which allows the synthesis of the vitamin.
This vegetal form of vitamin D is not synthesized by man. It is present in small quantities in all vegetables and yeasts. It is produced by the action of ultraviolet as is the case for vitamin D3 in humans.
Whether vitamin D3 or vitamin D2, are respectively the one of the skin or the one from the diet, both reach the liver. At this level, the molecule receives a hydroxide radical -OH and becomes 25 hydroxycholecalciferol 25 (OH) D3 or calcidiol, which is dosed in the blood, which is the reflection of the vitamin status. Finally in the kidney, there is a new hydroxylation on another pole of the molecule, which transforms it into the dihydrocholécalciférol 1-25 1-25 (diOH) D3 or calcitriol. This is the form considered as active in the body.

OEMINE D3 vegetal

This vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) adopted by vegetarians comes from a particular source, boreal lichen. Analysis of the oil extracted from the lichen has indeed shown the presence of vitamin D3.
Lichens are small, unique plant species composed of a symbiotic association of a fungus with a variety of seaweed. This unique natural cooperation of its kind allows them to survive in extreme climates, thanks to their ability to grow and accumulate significant levels of useful nutrients, including vitamin D3.

OEMINE AD

It is also the natural form of vitamin D3, contained in fatty fish liver oils. However, it is not possible to use this oil in heavy deficiency, because it is too rich in vitamin A compared to vitamin D. (hence its name AD): It will be useful in prevention deficiency or alternating treatment with D2 or D3 plant.
