Description

The Unknown Philosopher

In 1785, Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin wrote what is perhaps one of the most profound books about the origin of Man, his Nature, and his relationship with God. It was written as a direct rebuttal of the creeping atheism which followed the split of Religion and Science of the Age of Enlightenment, and even now gives us a glimpse of a great mind writing in the dangerous times immediately prior to the French Revolution.

A beacon to Freemasons and those of the intelligent classes in France and Europe who were tired of ‘the Observers’ putting everything into pigeonholes, and a harbinger of the Esoteric Renaissance which was just around the corner, Saint-Martin drew on the extraordinary teachings of his Master, Martines de Pasqually, founder of the Order of Elus Cohen, and on his friendship with Jean-Baptiste Willermoz, creater of the C.B.C.S., to create a system which is both fascinating and awe-inspiring in its sheer scale.

Outlining his vision of Man as a glorious being who fell from grace because of his rebellion against God, he gives a message of hope for his eventual Reintegration with the First Principle, providing evidence from fields as diverse as Music, Art, Mathematics, Geometry, Politics, the Military, Leadership, Religion and Nature.

About the Author

Piers A. Vaughan is a lifelong student of the esoteric and theosophical paths. A prominent Mason in New York, he has lectured across the United States and many countries on a wide range of topics.

Noticing a lack of translations of the works of Saint-Martin, he hopes to bring further works by this author and other Martinist luminaries to the English-speaking world.
