Dr. Clifford (Cliff) R. Merz is a Commissioner in the city of Safety Harbor, Florida with an interest in strengthening community development through closer connections between local business and surrounding school and educational training programs. He is also the Program and HF Radar Operations Director of the Coastal Ocean Monitoring and Prediction System (COMPS) at the University of South Florida’s (USF) College of Marine Science and a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
Dr. Merz received the BS and MS degrees in Ocean Engineering and the PhD degree in Engineering Science with research interests in the areas of water-food-energy nexus technologies such as renewable salinity gradient power generation technologies and algae production for the aquaculture and biofuels sectors.
