Description
The notion of knight, present in the expression “Knight Rosicrucian” dates back to the West in the Middle Ages. It found its letters of nobility with the appearance of the Chivalrous Orders, in particular the Order of the Temple, founded in 1118 by Hugh de Payns, during the First Crusade. These Orders brought together “monk-soldiers” who strove to respect the moral rules inspired by the dominant religion at the time, Christianity. To use the example of the Templars, they followed the rule of St. Benedict, based in particular on the four virtues (prudence, temperance, courage and justice), and the three theological virtues (faith, hope, charity).Originally associated with moral values inspired by Christianity, the Knight has come, over time, to symbolize a more mystical ethical ideal. Thus, for the members of the A. M.O.R.C., the Knight Rosicrucian represents the state of wisdom to which they aspire. Seen in this light, the Order of the Rosicrucian Is akin to a spiritual chivalry, in which everyone, guided by his desire to perfect himself on the human level, leads a fight against his own weaknesses or defects.
“… a mystic, and more particularly a Rosicrucian, is a pilgrim who walks in search of the Knight who sleeps in him. To awaken him, he must manifest virtues that will make him pass from the state of Rosicrucian pilgrim to that of Knight Rosicrucian. This implies for him to perform a pilgrimage of the soul and to meditate in conscience on the tomb of his Inner Christ. Now, to carry out such a pilgrimage, he must put on the mantle of patience and rely on the staff of knowledge.” (Christian Bernard – Under the auspices of the Rosicrucian, so be it!)
